Since Apple claims that Cisco VPN is natively supported, and it is explained in detail here, my guess would be a VPN configuration issue or mismatch. Best client management software for mac.

From my experience, you will have to create a group on the ASA and assign it a password. You then add the user to this group.

In OSX, the account name and password is of the user's. Then under 'Authentication Settings' type in the password (shared secret) for the group you configured on the ASA and type in the name of the group in the 'Group Name' field.

I've copied and pasted what I hope is the relevant config out of my ASA (5525) where this is working for both AnyConnect and MacOS-native clients. I have expurgated it of localized information, so I may have typoed something along the way. I hope I haven't left anything out. (Look out for ! *** comments.)

Hi folks,
Being a recent 'switcher', I am finding myself scrambling to find replacements for the fav tools I used before. My newest frustration is finding a good replacement for SecureCRT for the Mac.
I need an SSH client that will save logon info for my most common servers that I SSH to, as well as keep the session alive during the times I have to step away from the desk.
I have been using the SSH command line utility built into OSX but if I have to ignore an SSH session for five minutes while I attend to other matters, then the connection is dropped and I have to re-establish it.
Any suggestions? TIA, Zeeple.

Thanks for the reply. But, as mentioned in the previous post, I currently use the SSH utility via command line and I find it lacking in the features I want. It has no keepalive. Thus if I have to walk away from the computer for a bit when I return, whatever I was connected to is now dropped, and I have to re-establich the SSH session. Pain in the rear.
A utility such as SecureCRT, for Windows computers only, has these features and more and is truly a superior SSH client. So I am hoping that other Mac users out there have the same requirements that I do, and have found a good utility somewhere that can fill this gap.

You can use a command alias or a simple script to save the login command for each of your favorite servers, if re-typing the commands gets too complicated. In its simplest form, this just means typing the command into a text file and making the file executable. OpenSSH is a pretty decent SSH client, and the BSD environment that surrounds it offers a rich variety of ways to streamline your workflow. If I had to guess, I'd say the lack of 'sophisticated' GUI SSH clients for OS X is because the power-users that would use them prefer to leverage the CLI instead.
Yeah, I haven't found a GUI ssh client I like as much as the command line. Color me geeky.
Ditto to the above comments about making a quick shell script that just fires off the appropriate username/password, but that's a slight security risk, keeping your passwords in plain text like that.
I set up secure keys between all my ssh2 connections, but you might not have that option.
Well, I think I would like to use the command line too, if only I can iron out these few wrinkles and make it quicker and easier to connect to my servers.
TCPKeepAlive: I have tried this option but it is not working for me. I have tried it via command line as such:
ssh -o TCPKeepAlive=yes server.domain.com
as well as placing it in /etc/ssh_config under 'Host *' But either way, the session is still dropped after a bit of inactivity.
Alias: I have also put a few aliases in /etc/profile that allow me to reduce this:
ssh -l barney -o TCPKeepAlive=yes host.domain.com
to this:
host
but this still leaves me needing to enter the password everytime. (I know a petty grievance) which is more typing than I'd like to have to do. Is there no way to pass that via config files or command line?

It is possible to establish trust through host keys as well as authenticate through a personal ssh key. This second method is probably better. You would have to create a key with ssh-keygen, place it on the hosts in appropriate files etc, then use ssh-agent to keep it for you while your OS X session is open allowing password-less login onto other hosts.
However, I actually think that having to enter a password when logging in is a good thing. A little inconvenience that actually improves security.
Yep, this is only a problem when I use the Mac. But I think it is not an inherent difference in Operating Systems so much as it was a feature of a really good SSH client that *happened* to be written for Windows. This is the client, btw, that I am referring to:

I'm trying to filter a specific device from my network. Either MAC or IP address filtering would do the trick, but I have trouble finding the exact Cisco IOS commands to use. Portal for mac. My router is a Cisco 870 and the device is connected through wifi (if that makes a difference).

A few years ago we had a small client with an RV320 and I used the free Shrewsoft VPN client to setup IPsec remote-access VPN. Worked perfectly, once the connection profile was set up in the Shrew client, all the user needed to do is launch the client, click connect and enter their username/password.

I'd like to know where the product stores its log files when a user clicks on this button. On previous Lync versions, the log files were stored under ~/Library/Logs, but I did not see any Skype for Business log files there after clicking this button.

Before you troubleshoot

First, make sure that users follow the correct steps when they sign in to Skype for Business Online. If users are signing in to Skype for Business Online correctly and the issue persists, use one or more of the other methods later in this article to troubleshoot the issue, as appropriate for your situation.

Note

To connect Lync for Mac 2011 to Skype for Business Online in Office 365, you must have Lync for Mac version 14.0.6 or a later version installed. If you use a version that's earlier than version 14.0.6, you may have problems when you sign in to Skype for Business Online because earlier versions have issues that prevent authentication to Skype for Business Online. You can find the latest update at Update for Lync for Mac 2011.

Make sure that users follow the correct steps when they sign in to Skype for Business Online

To sign in to Skype for Business Online by using Lync for Mac, users should follow these steps:

Start Lync for Mac.
Enter your email address, user ID, and password.
Next to Sign in as, select the presence status that you want to display after you sign in.
If you want to save your credentials, click to select the Remember my password check box. Your credentials will be saved in the Mac OS Keychain and will work until the next time that your password changes or expires.
To configure additional options for connecting to Skype for Business Online, click Advanced. You can configure the following options:
- Automatic Configuration: In most cases, this is the correct setting. If the necessary DNS records are present and automatic configuration isn't working, try Manual Configuration.
- Manual Configuration: Select this option if automatic configuration is failing, and specify the following values:
  - Internal server name: sipdir.online.lync.com:443
  - External server name: sipdir.online.lync.com:443
- Kerberos authentication:Leave this option cleared. Office 365 uses the Microsoft Azure AD authentication system for authentication.

If you still can't sign in

The following table describes error messages that may occur when users sign in or use Lync for Mac with Skype for Business Online.

Troubleshoot Lync for Mac issues

Use one or more of the following methods, as appropriate for your situation.

Users may be unable to sign in unless they first use an incorrect sign-in address

Try to sign in to Skype for Business Online by using an incorrect sign-in address. That is, a sign-in address that you know won't work. For example, EmailAddress @contoso.com.
Note
When you do this, sign-in will fail. This is expected behavior.
After the sign-in fails, sign in by using the correct sign-in address. For example, EmailAddress@contoso.com.

If Lync for Mac stops working after an Internet connectivity issue, flush the DNS cache

Can someone recommend a good OSX client to connect to mssql? I will need to run basic queries, possibly create some Sprocs (which can be done in an editor), and have general access to the DB. I'm not a fan of Dual Booting, or Parallels simply to use Microsoft's SQL Manager. SQLPro for MSSQL (was SQL Client) is a lightweight TDS client, allowing quick and simple access to Microsoft SQL servers (sqlserver), including those hosted in Azure. MySQL Workbench: It is consistently buggy bit it provisions multiple open connections, each with multiple SQL editor tabs that simply decode SQL files. The SQL editor has a parser and identifies the window fillings as a set of statements separated by “;” with syntax errors highlighted.
Aqua Data Studio: It is not free but it is good. It seems to have some quirks, for example: the SQL editor necessitates you to separate SQL statements with “/” and the file open/save dialog doesn’t provision the full native OS X file dialog box which makes browsing slow.
There are dozens and many more GUI tools available that support MySQL. Many support other database brands too. Many are not free. Many run on Windows or only on some other platform. Some popular tools generally include: HeidiSQL, MySQL Workbench, Navicat, DBVisualizer etc.

Solution This can be a problem with the way the MAC machine attempts to connect to the ASA. First verify if any IPv6 adaptors are enabled on the MAC machine and check if MAC tries to contact ASA over the IPv6 network. If so, it fails as the IPv6 is not supported with AnyConnect. In order to resolve this, disable the IPv6 related services on the MAC machine and try to connect with an IPv4 address.
